أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو نَصْرِ بْنُ قَتَادَةَ أنا أَبُو مَنْصُورٍ النَّضْرَوِيُّ أنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ نَجْدَةَ نا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ نا هُشَيْمٌ أنا حُصَيْنٌ عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ أَنَّ امْرَأَةً نَشَزَتْ عَلَى زَوْجِهَا فَاخْتَصَمُوا إِلَى شُرَيْحٍ فَقَالَ شُرَيْحٌ ابْعَثُوا حَكَمًا مِنْ أَهْلِهِ وَحَكَمًا مِنْ أَهْلِهَا فَفَعَلُوا فَنَظَرَ الْحَكَمَانِ إِلَى أَمْرِهِمَا فَرَأَيَا أَنْ يُفَرِّقَا بَيْنَهُمَا فَكَرِهَ ذَلِكَ الرَّجُلُ فَقَالَ شُرَيْحٌ فَفِيمَ كُنَّا فِيهِ الْيَوْمَ وَأَجَازَ أَمْرَهُمَا
English Translation
Abu Ali al-Rudhbari informed us... from Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Jews came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and mentioned that a man and a woman from among them had committed adultery. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: What do you find in the Torah regarding stoning? They said: We disgrace them and flog them. Abdullah bin Salam said: You have lied; it contains the verse of stoning. They brought the Torah and opened it, and one of them placed his hand over the verse of stoning. Then he read what was before it and after it. Abdullah bin Salam said: Lift your hand. He lifted his hand and there was the verse of stoning. They said: He has spoken the truth, O Muhammad; it contains the verse of stoning. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) ordered that they be stoned, and they were stoned.
