English Translation
Al-Husain bin Muhammad al-Rudhbari informed us... from Jabalah bin Suhaim, who said: We were afflicted by a year of hardship while with Ibn al-Zubair, and we were given dates. Abdullah bin Umar would pass by us while we were eating them and say: Do not combine two dates at a time, for the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) forbade combining (iqraan). Then he said: Unless a man asks permission from his brother. Shu'bah said: The permission part is from the words of Ibn Umar.
