English Translation
Al-Mundhir ibn Amr al-Wadi'i reported that Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) appointed him over cavalry in Syria. Among the cavalry were biradhins (non-Arabian horses). The Arabian horses outpaced them, and the owners of the biradhins came. Al-Mundhir ibn Amr then allotted two shares for the horse and one share for its rider. He wrote to Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) about it, and Umar said: 'You have followed the Sunnah.' In the book of the old opinion, from Abu Ishaq, who said: I campaigned with Sa'id ibn Uthman, and he allotted two shares for my horse and one share for me. Abu Ishaq said: Hani' ibn Hani' narrated the same from Ali, and Harithah ibn Mudarrib narrated the same from Umar (may Allah be pleased with them).
