وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ عَبْدُ الْخَالِقِ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ أنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ خَنْبٍ أنا أَبُو إِسْمَاعِيلَ التِّرْمِذِيُّ ثنا أَيُّوبُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي أُوَيْسٍ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ بِلَالٍ قَالَ قَالَ يَحْيَى حَدَّثَنِي حُمَيْدٌ الطَّوِيلُ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْبَصْرَةِ أَنَّ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ ؓ غَرَّمَهُ بِضَاعَةً كَانَتْ مَعَهُ فَسُرِقَتْ أَوْ ضَاعَتْ فَغَرَّمَهَا إِيَّاهُ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ ؓ قَالَ الشَّيْخُ يُحْتَمَلُ أَنَّهُ كَانَ فَرَّطَ فِيهَا فَضَمَّنَهَا إِيَّاهُ بِالتَّفْرِيطِ وَاللهُ أَعْلَمُ
English Translation
Anas ibn Malik narrated that Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) made him pay for goods that were with him as a deposit that were stolen or lost. Umar ibn al-Khattab made him liable for them. The shaykh said: It is possible that he was negligent with them, so he was made liable due to negligence. And Allah knows best.
