أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدِ بْنُ أَبِي عَمْرٍو وَأنا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْحُلْوَانِيُّ ثنا عَارِمٌ ثنا يُوسُفُ بْنُ الْمَاجِشُونِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ شِهَابٍ يَقُولُ لَوْ هَلَكَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ وَزَيْدُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ ؓ فِي بَعْضِ الزَّمَانِ لَهَلَكَ عِلْمُ الْفَرَائِضِ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ جَاءَ عَلَى النَّاسِ زَمَانٌ وَمَا يُحْسِنُهُ غَيْرُهُمَا
English Translation
Abu Sa'id ibn Abi Amr informed us, and Abu Abdullah ibn Ya'qub narrated to us: Muhammad ibn Nasr narrated to us: al-Hasan ibn Ali al-Hulwani narrated to us: 'Arim narrated to us: Yusuf ibn al-Majishun said: I heard Ibn Shihab saying: Had Uthman ibn Affan and Zayd ibn Thabit (may Allah be pleased with them) perished in some era, the knowledge of inheritance laws would have perished until the Day of Resurrection. There came a time upon people when no one excelled in it except them.
