حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ شُعْبَةَ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ هِلَالِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَقُولُ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ هَذِهِ الْحَبَّةَ السَّوْدَاءَ شِفَاءٌ مِنْ كُلِّ دَاءٍ إِلَّا السَّامَ قَالَ شُعْبَةُ فَقُلْتُ لِقَتَادَةَ مَا السَّامُ قَالَ الْمَوْتُ.
English Translation
Hajjaj narrated to us, he said: I heard Shu'bah narrate from Qatadah, from Hilal ibn Yazid, that he heard Abu Hurayrah say, about the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): 'This black seed is a cure for every disease except death (al-sam).' Shu'bah said: So I asked Qatadah, 'What is al-sam?' He said: 'Death.'
