حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ هُرْمُزَ الْأَعْرَجِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ خَرَجَتْ امْرَأَتَانِ وَمَعَهُمَا صَبِيَّانِ فَعَدَا الذِّئْبُ عَلَى أَحَدِهِمَا فَأَخَذَتَا يَخْتَصِمَانِ فِي الصَّبِيِّ الْبَاقِي فَاخْتَصَمَتَا إِلَى دَاوُدَ فَقَضَى بِهِ لِلْكُبْرَى مِنْهُمَا فَمَرَّتَا عَلَى سُلَيْمَانَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ فَكَيْفَ أَمَرَكُمَا فَقَصَّتَا عَلَيْهِ الْقِصَّةَ فَقَالَ ائْتُونِي بِالسِّكِّينِ أَشُقُّ الْغُلَامَ بَيْنَكُمَا فَقَالَتْ الصُّغْرَى أَتَشُقُّهُ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَتْ لَا تَفْعَلْ حَظِّي مِنْهُ لَهَا فَقَالَ هُوَ ابْنُكِ فَقَضَى بِهِ لَهَا.
English Translation
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Two women went out, each with her child. A wolf attacked one of the children. They began disputing over the remaining child. They took their dispute to Dawud, who judged in favor of the older woman. Then they passed by Sulayman the Prophet (peace be upon him). He said: 'What did he decide for you?' They told him the story. He said: 'Bring me a knife; I will cut the boy in half between you.' The younger woman said: 'Will you cut him?' He said: 'Yes.' She said: 'Do not do it! My share of him is hers.' He said: 'He is your son.' And he ruled in her favor."
