حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ وَعَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ الْيَهُودَ وَالنَّصَارَى لَا يَصْبُغُونَ فَخَالِفُوهُمْ قَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ فِي حَدِيثِهِ قَالَ الزُّهْرِيُّ وَالْأَمْرُ بِالْأَصْبَاغِ فَأَحْلَكُهَا أَحَبُّ إِلَيْنَا قَالَ مَعْمَرٌ وَكَانَ الزُّهْرِيُّ يَخْضِبُ بِالسَّوَادِ.
English Translation
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'The most envied of my friends in my view is a believer with little baggage, who has a share of prayer, who worships his Lord well, who obeys Him in secret, who is obscure among people, who is not pointed out — and his provision is sufficient and he is content with it.' Then he tapped his fingers and said: 'His death came quickly, his mourners were few, and his inheritance was small.'
