حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي زِيَادٍ حَدَّثَنِي مَنْ سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَقُولُ أَوْصَانِي خَلِيلِي بِثَلَاثٍ وَنَهَانِي عَنْ ثَلَاثٍ أَوْصَانِي بِالْوِتْرِ قَبْلَ النَّوْمِ وَصِيَامِ ثَلَاثَةِ أَيَّامٍ مِنْ كُلِّ شَهْرٍ وَرَكْعَتَيْ الضُّحَى قَالَ وَنَهَانِي عَنْ الِالْتِفَاتِ وَإِقْعَاءٍ كَإِقْعَاءِ الْقِرْدِ وَنَقْرٍ كَنَقْرِ الدِّيكِ.
English Translation
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'The most beloved fast to Allah is the fast of Dawud. He used to fast one day and not fast the next. The most beloved prayer to Allah is the prayer of Dawud. He used to sleep half the night, pray for a third of it, and sleep for a sixth of it.'
