English Translation
Hushaym told us: al-Awwam ibn Hawshab informed us, from Abdullah ibn al-Sa'ib, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The obligatory prayer to the one following it is an expiation for what is between them. He said: And Friday to Friday, and the month to the month - meaning Ramadan to Ramadan - is an expiation for what is between them. He said: Then after that he said: except for three matters. He said: I realized that this referred to something newly arisen - except associating partners with Allah, breaking a pledge of allegiance, and abandoning the Sunnah. He said: As for breaking the pledge of allegiance, it is that you pledge allegiance to a man and then turn against him, fighting him with your sword; and as for abandoning the Sunnah, it is departing from the community.
