English Translation
Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi told us: Muhammad ibn Abi al-Waddah told us: al-Ala ibn Abdullah ibn Rafi' told me: Hanan ibn Kharijah told us, from Abdullah ibn Amr, who said: A bold Bedouin of the Alawi tribe came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and said: O Messenger of Allah, tell us about emigration to you - is it wherever you may be, or is it for a particular people, or to a specific land, or does it end when you die? He fell silent for a short while, then said: Where is the questioner? He said: Here I am, O Messenger of Allah. He said: Emigration is that you abandon indecent acts, whatever is apparent of them and whatever is concealed, and that you establish the prayer and give the zakat; then you are an emigrant even if you die in your own homeland.
