حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ سَالِمٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَرَّ بِابْنِ صَيَّادٍ فِي نَفَرٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ فِيهِمْ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ وَهُوَ يَلْعَبُ مَعَ الْغِلْمَانِ عِنْدَ أُطُمِ بَنِي مَغَالَةَ وَهُوَ غُلَامٌ فَلَمْ يَشْعُرْ حَتَّى ضَرَبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ظَهْرَهُ بِيَدِهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَتَشْهَدُ أَنِّي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ فَنَظَرَ إِلَيْهِ ابْنُ صَيَّادٍ فَقَالَ أَشْهَدُ أَنَّكَ رَسُولُ الْأُمِّيِّينَ ثُمَّ قَالَ ابْنُ صَيَّادٍ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَتَشْهَدُ أَنِّي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ آمَنْتُ بِاللَّهِ وَبِرُسُلِهِ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا يَأْتِيكَ قَالَ ابْنُ صَيَّادٍ يَأْتِينِي صَادِقٌ وَكَاذِبٌ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خُلِطَ لَكَ الْأَمْرُ ثُمَّ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنِّي قَدْ خَبَأْتُ لَكَ خَبِيئًا وَخَبَأَ لَهُ { يَوْمَ تَأْتِي السَّمَاءُ بِدُخَانٍ مُبِينٍ } فَقَالَ ابْنُ صَيَّادٍ هُوَ الدُّخُّ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ اخْسَأْ فَلَنْ تَعْدُوَ قَدْرَكَ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ائْذَنْ لِي فِيهِ فَأَضْرِبَ عُنُقَهُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنْ يَكُنْ هُوَ فَلَنْ تُسَلَّطَ عَلَيْهِ وَإِنْ لَا يَكُنْ هُوَ فَلَا خَيْرَ لَكَ فِي قَتْلِهِ حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي عَنْ صَالِحٍ قَالَ ابْنُ شِهَابٍ أَخْبَرَنِي سَالِمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ قَالَ انْطَلَقَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قِبَلَ ابْنِ صَيَّادٍ فَذَكَرَهُ حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي عَنْ صَالِحٍ قَالَ ابْنُ شِهَابٍ أَخْبَرَنِي سَالِمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ قَالَ انْطَلَقَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَمَعَهُ رَهْطٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ فِيهِمْ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ حَتَّى وَجَدَ ابْنَ صَيَّادٍ غُلَامًا قَدْ نَاهَزَ الْحُلُمَ يَلْعَبُ مَعَ الْغِلْمَانِ عِنْدَ أُطُمِ بَنِي مُعَاوِيَةَ فَذَكَرَ مَعْنَاهُ.
English Translation
Abdur-Razzaq told us, Ma'mar informed us, from az-Zuhri, from Salim, from Ibn Umar, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by Ibn Sayyad among a group of his companions, among whom was Umar ibn al-Khattab, while he was playing with the boys near the fortress of Banu Maghalah, and he was still a boy. He did not notice until the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) struck his back with his hand, then said: Do you bear witness that I am the Messenger of Allah? Ibn Sayyad looked at him and said: I bear witness that you are the messenger of the unlettered ones. Then Ibn Sayyad said to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Do you bear witness that I am the messenger of Allah? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I believe in Allah and His messengers. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: What comes to you? Ibn Sayyad said: A truthful one and a lying one come to me. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The matter has been confused for you. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I have hidden something for you - and he hid for him the verse: {The Day the sky will bring a visible smoke}. Ibn Sayyad said: It is ad-dukh. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Be off, you will never exceed your limit. Umar said: O Messenger of Allah, give me permission regarding him, that I may strike off his neck. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If he is the one, you will not be given power over him, and if he is not, there is no good for you in killing him. Ya'qub told us, my father told us, from Salih, Ibn Shihab said: Salim ibn Abdullah informed me that Abdullah ibn Umar said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) set out toward Ibn Sayyad - and he mentioned it. Ya'qub told us, my father told us, from Salih, Ibn Shihab said: Salim ibn Abdullah informed me that Abdullah ibn Umar said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) set out, with a group of his companions among whom was Umar ibn al-Khattab, until he found Ibn Sayyad, a boy who had almost reached puberty, playing with the boys near the fortress of Banu Mu'awiyah - and he mentioned its meaning.
