English Translation
Abu al-Mughirah told us: Abdullah ibn Salim told us: al-Ala' ibn Utbah al-Himsi, or al-Yahsubi, told me, from Umayr ibn Hani' al-Ansi: I heard Abdullah ibn Umar say: We were sitting with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, when he mentioned the tribulations (fitan) and spoke of them at length, until he mentioned the tribulation of al-Ahlas. Someone said, 'O Messenger of Allah, what is the tribulation of al-Ahlas?' He said: 'It is a tribulation of flight and war. Then there will be the tribulation of al-Sarra', its smoke or its corruption arising from beneath the feet of a man of my household who claims to be from me but is not from me; my true allies are only the God-fearing. Then the people will reconcile upon a man like a hip-bone set upon a rib. Then there will be the tribulation of al-Duhayma', which will leave none of this nation without striking him a blow; whenever it is said to have ended, it continues. A man will rise in the morning a believer and by evening be a disbeliever, until people become divided into two camps: a camp of faith with no hypocrisy in it, and a camp of hypocrisy with no faith in it. When that occurs, expect the Dajjal, today or tomorrow.'
