حَدَّثَنَا عَتَّابٌ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو حَمْزَةَ يَعْنِي السُّكَّرِيَّ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى عَنْ صَدَقَةَ الْمَكِّيِّ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ اعْتَكَفَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الْعَشْرِ الْأَوَاخِرِ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ فَاتُّخِذَ لَهُ فِيهِ بَيْتٌ مِنْ سَعَفٍ قَالَ فَأَخْرَجَ رَأْسَهُ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ فَقَالَ إِنَّ الْمُصَلِّيَ يُنَاجِي رَبَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فَلْيَنْظُرْ أَحَدُكُمْ بِمَا يُنَاجِي رَبَّهُ وَلَا يَجْهَرْ بَعْضُكُمْ عَلَى بَعْضٍ بِالْقِرَاءَةِ.
English Translation
Attab narrated to us: Abu Hamzah - namely al-Sukkari - narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Layla, from Sadaqah al-Makki, from Ibn Umar, who said: The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, secluded himself in devotion (i'tikaf) during the last ten days of Ramadan, and a small hut of palm branches was made for him. One day he put out his head and said: "The one praying is confiding in his Lord, Mighty and Sublime, so let each of you consider what he confides to his Lord, and let none of you raise his voice over another in reciting."
