قَالَ قَرَأْتُ عَلَى عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ : مَالِكٌ قَالَ أَبِي و حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ أَخْبَرَنِي مَالِكٌ عَنْ مُسْلِمِ بْنِ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْمُعَاوِيِّ أَنَّهُ قَالَ رَآنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ وَأَنَا أَعْبَثُ بِالْحَصَى فِي الصَّلَاةِ فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ نَهَانِي وَقَالَ اصْنَعْ كَمَا كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَصْنَعُ قُلْتُ وَكَيْفَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَصْنَعُ قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا جَلَسَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ وَضَعَ كَفَّهُ الْيُمْنَى عَلَى فَخِذِهِ الْيُمْنَى وَقَبَضَ أَصَابِعَهُ كُلَّهَا وَأَشَارَ بِإِصْبَعِهِ الَّتِي تَلِي الْإِبْهَامَ وَوَضَعَ كَفَّهُ الْيُسْرَى عَلَى فَخِذِهِ الْيُسْرَى.
English Translation
He said: I read to Abd al-Rahman: Malik... My father said: and Ishaq narrated to us: Malik informed me, from Muslim ibn Abi Maryam, from Ali ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Mu'awi, who said: Abdullah ibn Umar saw me fiddling with pebbles during prayer, and when he finished he rebuked me and said: "Do as the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, used to do." I said: "And how did the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, do?" He said: "When the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, sat in prayer, he placed his right palm on his right thigh, closed all his fingers, and pointed with the finger next to the thumb, and placed his left palm on his left thigh."
