حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ عَنْ كَثِيرِ بْنِ جُمْهَانَ قَالَ رَأَيْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ يَمْشِي فِي الْوَادِي بَيْنَ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ وَلَا يَسْعَى فَقُلْتُ لَهُ فَقَالَ إِنْ أَسْعَ فَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَسْعَى وَإِنْ أَمْشِ فَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَمْشِي وَأَنَا شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ.
English Translation
Waki' narrated to us, from his father, from 'Ata', from Kathir ibn Jumhan, who said: I saw Ibn 'Umar walking in the valley between al-Safa and al-Marwah, not running, so I asked him about it, and he said: 'If I were to run, I have indeed seen the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, run; and if I walk, I have indeed seen the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, walk; and I am now a very old man.'
