حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ قَالَ صَحِبْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ مِنْ الْمَدِينَةِ إِلَى مَكَّةَ فَجَعَلَ يُصَلِّي عَلَى رَاحِلَتِهِ نَاحِيَةَ مَكَّةَ فَقُلْتُ لِسَالِمٍ لَوْ كَانَ وَجْهُهُ إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ كَيْفَ كَانَ يُصَلِّي قَالَ سَلْهُ فَسَأَلْتُهُ فَقَالَ نَعَمْ وَهَاهُنَا وَهَاهُنَا وَقَالَ لِأَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَنَعَهُ حَدَّثَنَاه حُسَيْنٌ حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ مَوْلَى آلِ عُمَرَ فَذَكَرَ مَعْنَاهُ.
English Translation
Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us: Shu'bah narrated to us, from Mansur, from Abd al-Rahman ibn Sa'd, who said: I accompanied Ibn Umar from Medina to Mecca, and he began praying upon his mount in the direction of Mecca. I said to Salim: If his face had been toward Medina, how would he have prayed? He said: Ask him. So I asked him, and he said: Yes, this way and that way, saying: Because the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, did it that way. Husayn narrated this to us: Shayban narrated to us, from Mansur, from Abd al-Rahman ibn Sa'd, the freedman of the family of Umar, and he related the same meaning.
