حَدَّثَنَا عَبِيدَةُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ عَنِ الْمُخَارِقِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْأَحْمَسِيِّ عَنْ طَارِقِ بْنِ شِهَابٍ قَالَ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ لَقَدْ شَهِدْتُ مِنْ الْمِقْدَادِ مَشْهَدًا لَأَنْ أَكُونَ أَنَا صَاحِبَهُ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِمَّا عَلَى الْأَرْضِ مِنْ شَيْءٍ قَالَ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَكَانَ رَجُلًا فَارِسًا قَالَ فَقَالَ أَبْشِرْ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ وَاللَّهِ لَا نَقُولُ لَكَ كَمَا قَالَتْ بَنُو إِسْرَائِيلَ لِمُوسَى صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ { اذْهَبْ أَنْتَ وَرَبُّكَ فَقَاتِلَا إِنَّا هَاهُنَا قَاعِدُونَ } وَلَكِنْ وَالَّذِي بَعَثَكَ بِالْحَقِّ لَنَكُونَنَّ بَيْنَ يَدَيْكَ وَعَنْ يَمِينِكَ وَعَنْ شِمَالِكَ وَمِنْ خَلْفِكَ حَتَّى يَفْتَحَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْكَ.
English Translation
Ubayda ibn Humayd told us, from al-Mukhariq ibn Abdullah al-Ahmasi, from Tariq ibn Shihab, who said: Abdullah ibn Mas'ud said, "I witnessed from al-Miqdad a scene such that, for me to have been the one in his place, would be dearer to me than anything on earth." He said: he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) — and he was a horseman — and said, "Rejoice, O Prophet of Allah! By Allah, we will not say to you as the Children of Israel said to Musa (peace and blessings be upon him): 'Go, you and your Lord, and fight; we will sit here.' Rather, by the One who sent you with the truth, we will be before you, on your right, on your left, and behind you, until Allah grants you victory."
