English Translation
Abdullah ibn Mas'ud said: 'The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) prayed — and I do not know whether he added or omitted — and when he said the salam, it was said to him: O Messenger of Allah, has something new happened regarding the prayer? He said: What is that? They said: You prayed such-and-such. So he folded his legs and faced the qiblah, performed two prostrations, then gave the salam. Then he turned to us and said: If something new had happened regarding the prayer, I would have informed you. But I am only a human being; I forget as you forget. When one of you forgets, let him perform two prostrations while sitting, then give the salam.'
