حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ دَاوُدَ أَخْبَرَنَا زُهَيْرٌ عَنْ أَبِي الْحَارِثِ يَحْيَى التَّيْمِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي مَاجِدٍ الْحَنَفِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ سَأَلْنَا نَبِيَّنَا صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ السَّيْرِ بِالْجِنَازَةِ فَقَالَ السَّيْرُ مَا دُونَ الْخَبَبِ فَإِنْ يَكُ خَيْرًا يُعَجَّلْ أَوْ تُعَجَّلْ إِلَيْهِ وَإِنْ يَكُ سِوَى ذَلِكَ فَبُعْدًا لِأَهْلِ النَّارِ الْجِنَازَةُ مَتْبُوعَةٌ وَلَا تَتْبَعُ لَيْسَ مِنَّا مَنْ تَقَدَّمَهَا.
English Translation
We asked our Prophet (peace be upon him) about walking with a funeral procession. He said: 'Walk at a pace slower than a trot. If the deceased was good, you hasten him to it (goodness). If otherwise, then away with the people of the Fire. The funeral is to be followed, not led; whoever walks ahead of it is not of us.'
