حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو النَّضْرِ حَدَّثَنَا الْمَسْعُودِيُّ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ جَعْدَةَ عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَتَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَسْأَلُهُ عَنْ لَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَيُّكُمْ يَذْكُرُ لَيْلَةَ الصَّهْبَاوَاتِ فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ أَنَا وَاللَّهِ أَذْكُرُهَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ بِأَبِي أَنْتَ وَأُمِّي وَإِنَّ فِي يَدَيَّ لَتَمَرَاتٍ أَتَسَحَّرُ بِهِنَّ مُسْتَتِرًا بِمُؤْخِرَةِ رَحْلِي مِنْ الْفَجْرِ وَذَلِكَ حِينَ طَلَعَ الْقَمَرُ.
English Translation
Abu al-Nadr told us, al-Mas'udi told us, from Sa'id ibn Amr ibn Ja'dah, from Abu Ubaydah, from Abdullah, that a man came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, asking him about the Night of Decree (Laylat al-Qadr). The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Which of you remembers the night of the reddish [moonlit] nights?" Abdullah said: "I do, by Allah, I remember it, O Messenger of Allah - may my father and mother be sacrificed for you - I had some dates in my hands with which I was having the pre-dawn meal, hidden behind the back of my saddle, at the time of dawn, and that was when the moon had risen."
