حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ مَيْسَرَةَ عَنِ النَّزَّالِ بْنِ سَبْرَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَنَّهُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَجُلًا يَقْرَأُ آيَةً وَسَمِعْتُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ غَيْرَهَا فَأَتَيْتُ بِهِ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَتَغَيَّرَ وَجْهُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَوْ عَرَفْتُ فِي وَجْهِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْكَرَاهِيَةَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كِلَاكُمَا مُحْسِنٌ إِنَّ مَنْ قَبْلَكُمْ اخْتَلَفُوا فِيهِ فَأَهْلَكَهُمْ قَالَ شُعْبَةُ وَحَدَّثَنِي مِسْعَرٌ عَنْهُ وَرَفَعَهُ إِلَى عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَلَا تَخْتَلِفُوا.
English Translation
Muhammad ibn Ja'far told us, Shu'bah told us, from Abd al-Malik ibn Maysarah, from al-Nazzal ibn Sabrah, from Abdullah, that he said: I heard a man reciting a verse, and I had heard something different from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, so I brought him to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and the face of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, changed — or I recognized displeasure in the face of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him — and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Both of you are reciting well; indeed those before you differed concerning it, and it destroyed them." Shu'bah said: And Mis'ar narrated it to me from him, and he raised it up to Abdullah, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "So do not differ."
