English Translation
Muhammad told us, Shu'bah told us, he said: I heard Abu Ishaq narrating from Abu Ubaydah, from Abdullah, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who said: He taught us the sermon of need: "Praise be to Allah; we seek His help and His forgiveness, and we seek refuge in Allah from the evils of our own selves. Whoever Allah guides, none can misguide, and whoever He leaves astray, none can guide. And I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger." Then he would recite three verses: "O you who believe, fear Allah as He should be feared, and do not die except as Muslims." "O mankind, fear your Lord, who created you from a single soul and created from it its mate, and spread from the two of them many men and women; and fear Allah, through whom you ask one another for your rights, and the ties of kinship. Indeed, Allah is ever, over you, an Observer." "O you who believe, fear Allah and speak words that are straightforward — He will amend your deeds for you and forgive you your sins. And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly attained a great attainment." Then you mention your need. Affan told us, Shu'bah told us, Abu Ishaq informed us, from Abu Ubaydah and Abu al-Ahwas — he said: and this is the wording of Abu Ubaydah — from his father, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, taught us two sermons: the sermon of need and the sermon for prayer: "Praise be to Allah," or "Indeed, praise belongs to Allah, we seek His help..." and he mentioned its meaning.
