English Translation

Hisham ibn Abd al-Malik told us: Abu Awanah told us, from Husayn, from Habib ibn Abi Thabit, that Muhammad ibn Ali ibn Abdillah ibn Abbas narrated to him from his father, who said: Ibn Abbas narrated to me that he spent the night at the Prophet's, peace and blessings be upon him, and he woke up in the night, took his tooth-stick and used it, then performed ablution while reciting: "Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth..." until he had recited these verses and reached the end of the surah. Then he prayed two rak'ahs, prolonging in them the standing, bowing, and prostration, then he finished, until I heard him breathing in sleep. Then he woke again, used the tooth-stick and performed ablution while reciting, and he did that three times, then he prayed Witr with three rak'ahs. Then Bilal the caller to prayer came to him, and he went out to the prayer saying: "O Allah, place light in my heart, and place light in my hearing, and place light in my sight, and place light before me and light behind me, and place light on my right and light on my left, light above me and light below me. O Allah, grant me abundant light."
