English Translation
Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us, he said: Ma'mar narrated to us, from al-Zuhri, who said: Abu Bakr ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Harith ibn Hisham informed me, from Asma' bint Umays, who said: The first complaint of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was in the house of Maymunah. His illness became severe until he lost consciousness. His wives consulted about applying medicine to him through his mouth (ladd), and they did so. When he regained consciousness, he said: "What is this?" They said: "This is the action of women who came from over there" - and he pointed toward the land of Abyssinia, and Asma' bint Umays was among them. They said: "We suspected you had pleurisy, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "That is a disease with which Allah the Almighty would never afflict me. Let no one remain in this house without having medicine applied to their mouth, except the uncle of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)" - meaning al-Abbas. So Maymunah had the medicine applied to her mouth that day, even though she was fasting, due to the firm command of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).
