حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ الْأَزْرَقُ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا هِشَامٌ عَنْ حَفْصَةَ عَنْ أُمِّ عَطِيَّةَ قَالَتْ تُوُفِّيَتْ إِحْدَى بَنَاتِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَتَانَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ اغْسِلْنَهَا بِسِدْرٍ وَاغْسِلْنَهَا وِتْرًا ثَلَاثًا أَوْ خَمْسًا أَوْ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ إِنْ رَأَيْتُنَّ وَاجْعَلْنَ فِي الْآخِرَةِ كَافُورًا أَوْ شَيْئًا مِنْ كَافُورٍ فَإِذَا فَرَغْتُنَّ فَآذِنَّنِي قَالَتْ فَلَمَّا فَرَغْنَا آذَنَّاهُ عَلَيْهِ الصَّلَاة وَالسَّلَامُ فَأَلْقَى إِلَيْنَا حَقْوَهُ فَقَالَ أَشْعِرْنَهَا إِيَّاهُ.
English Translation
Ishaq ibn Yusuf al-Azraq told us, he said: Hisham informed us, from Hafsah, from Umm Atiyyah, she said: One of the daughters of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) died, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to us and said: "Wash her with lote-tree leaves, and wash her an odd number of times, three, or five, or more than that if you see fit, and put camphor, or something of camphor, in the last washing; and when you have finished, inform me." She said: When we finished we informed him, peace and blessings be upon him, and he threw us his waist-wrapper and said: "Put it next to her skin."
