حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ زَيْدٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَصْحَابُهُ مَكَّةَ وَقَدْ وَهَنَتْهُمْ حُمَّى يَثْرِبَ فَقَالَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ إِنَّهُ لَقَدْ قَدِمَ عَلَيْكُمْ قَوْمٌ قَدْ وَهَنَتْهُمْ حُمَّى يَثْرِبَ وَلَقُوا مِنْهَا شَرًّا فَجَلَسَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ مِنْ النَّاحِيَةِ الَّتِي تَلِي الْحِجْرَ فَأَطْلَعَ اللَّهُ نَبِيَّهُ عَلَى مَا قَالُوا فَأَمَرَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يَرْمُلُوا الْأَشْوَاطَ الثَّلَاثَةَ لِيَرَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ جَلَدَهُمْ قَالَ فَرَمَلُوا ثَلَاثَةَ أَشْوَاطٍ وَأَمَرَهُمْ أَنْ يَمْشُوا بَيْنَ الرُّكْنَيْنِ حَيْثُ لَا يَرَاهُمْ الْمُشْرِكُونَ وَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ وَلَمْ يَمْنَعْ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يَأْمُرَهُمْ أَنْ يَرْمُلُوا الْأَشْوَاطَ كُلَّهَا إِلَّا الْإِبْقَاءُ عَلَيْهِمْ فَقَالَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ هَؤُلَاءِ الَّذِينَ زَعَمْتُمْ أَنَّ الْحُمَّى قَدْ وَهَنَتْهُمْ هَؤُلَاءِ أَجْلَدُ مِنْ كَذَا وَكَذَا.
English Translation
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and his Companions arrived in Makkah and the fever of Yathrib had weakened them. The polytheists said: 'There come to you people weakened by the fever of Yathrib who have been badly affected by it.' The polytheists sat on the side near al-Hijr. Allah informed His Prophet of what they said, so the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) ordered them to jog (raml) during the first three circuits so the polytheists could see their strength. They jogged for three circuits and he ordered them to walk between the two corners where the polytheists could not see them. Ibn Abbas said: 'Nothing prevented the Prophet (peace be upon him) from ordering them to jog all the circuits except consideration for them.' The polytheists said: 'These are the ones you claimed the fever had weakened? These are stronger than such-and-such!'
