English Translation
Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us, he said: 'Abdullah ibn Yazid ibn Miqsam informed us, he said: My aunt Sarah bint Miqsam narrated to me, from Maymunah bint Kardam, she said: I saw the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, at Makkah, riding his she-camel, and I was with my father. In the hand of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was a small whip like the whip of scribes. I heard the bedouins and the people saying 'al-tabtabiyyah' (the tapping one). My father approached him and took hold of his foot, and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, let him. She said: I have not forgotten, among what I have forgotten, the length of the index toe of his foot over his other toes. She said: My father said to him: I witnessed the army of 'Ithran. She said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, recognized that army and said: Tariq ibn al-Muraqqa' - who will give me a spear in exchange for its reward? He said: I said: What is its reward? He said: I will marry him to the first daughter born to me. He said: So I gave him my spear, then I left the matter until a daughter was born to him and reached maturity, so I came to him and said to him: Prepare my wife (i.e., your daughter) for me. He said: No, by Allah, I will not prepare her until you provide a new dowry besides that. So I swore that I would not do that. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: And what is her standing among women (her age)? He said: She has already seen grey hair (i.e., she is older). The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to me: Leave her be, there is no good for you in her. He said: That alarmed me, and I looked at him (waiting), and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: You will not sin, nor will your companion sin. She said: My father said to him at that gathering: I have vowed to slaughter a number of sheep. He said: I do not know it except that he said fifty sheep, at the top of Buwanah. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Was there any of these idols upon it (i.e., was it a place of pagan worship)? He said: No. He said: Then fulfill for Allah what you vowed to Him. She said: So my father gathered them and began slaughtering them, and one sheep escaped from him, and he pursued it saying: O Allah, fulfill my vow on my behalf, until he caught it and slaughtered it. 'Abd al-Samad narrated to us, he said: 'Abdullah ibn Yazid ibn Dabbah al-Ta'ifi narrated to us, he said: An aunt of mine called Sarah bint Miqsam narrated to me, from her mistress Maymunah bint Kardam, that she was with her father, and she mentioned that she saw the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, upon a she-camel with a whip in his hand, and he mentioned the hadith.
