حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ وهَاشِمٌ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي يَزِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ مَوْلَى أُمِّ قَيْسٍ بِنْتِ مِحْصَنٍ عَنْ أُمِّ قَيْسٍ أَنَّها قَالَتْ تُوُفِّيَ ابْنِي فَجَزِعْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَقُلْتُ لِلَّذِي يَغْسِلُهُ لَا تَغْسِلْ ابْنِي بِالْمَاءِ الْبَارِدِ فَتَقْتُلَهُ فَانْطَلَقَ عُكَّاشَةُ بْنُ مِحْصَنٍ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَخْبَرَهُ بِقَوْلِهَا فَتَبَسَّمَ ثُمَّ قَالَ مَا قَالَتْ طَالَ عُمْرُهَا قَالَ فَلَا أَعْلَمُ امْرَأَةً عُمِّرَتْ مَا عُمِّرَتْ.
English Translation
Hajjaj and Hashim narrated to us, they said: Layth narrated to us, he said: Yazid ibn Abi Habib narrated to me, from Abu al-Hasan, the freedman of Umm Qays bint Mihsan, from Umm Qays, that she said: My son died, and I grieved for him greatly, and I said to the one who was washing him: Do not wash my son with cold water, for you will kill him. So 'Ukkashah ibn Mihsan went to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and told him what she had said. He smiled and said: What did she say? May her life be long. He (the narrator) said: I do not know of any woman who lived as long a life as she did.
