English Translation
Muhammad bin Ja'far and Yahya bin Sa'id told us, from Shu'bah, who said: al-Hakam told me: I asked Miqsam, I said: "Shall I perform witr with three rak'ahs then go out to the prayer for fear it might be missed?" He said: "It is only proper with five or seven." So I informed Mujahid and Yahya bin al-Jazzar of his statement, and they said to me: "Ask him from whom he took this." So I asked him, and he said: "From a trustworthy source, from Maymunah and 'A'ishah, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him."
