حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي شَقِيقٌ وَابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ شَقِيقٍ عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ قَالَتْ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ إِذَا حَضَرْتُمْ الْمَرِيضَ أَوْ الْمَيِّتَ فَقُولُوا خَيْرًا فَإِنَّ الْمَلَائِكَةَ تُؤَمِّنُ عَلَى مَا تَقُولُونَ قَالَتْ فَلَمَّا مَاتَ أَبُو سَلَمَةَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ كَيْفَ أَقُولُ قَالَ قُولِي اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لَنَا وَلَهُ وَأَعْقِبْنِي مِنْهُ عُقْبَى حَسَنَةً وَقَالَ ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ صَالِحَةً قَالَتْ فَأَعْقَبَنِي اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ مِنْهُ مُحَمَّدًا صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ.
English Translation
Narrated to us by Yahya ibn Sa'id, from al-A'mash, who said: Shaqiq narrated to me - and Ibn Numayr [said]: al-A'mash narrated to us, from Shaqiq - from Umm Salamah, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "When you attend a sick person or a dying person, say good things, for indeed the angels say 'Amin' to what you say." She said: "So when Abu Salamah died, I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, what should I say?'" He said: "Say: 'O Allah, forgive us and him, and grant me a good successor after him'" - and Ibn Numayr said "a righteous successor." She said: "So Allah, Mighty and Sublime, granted me as a successor after him Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)."
