English Translation

Narrated to us by Affan, who said: Abd al-Wahid ibn Ziyad narrated to us, [who said]: Uthman ibn Hakim said: Abd al-Rahman ibn Shaybah narrated to us, who said: I heard Umm Salamah, wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), say: "I said to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), 'Why are we not mentioned in the Qur'an as men are mentioned?'" She said: "Nothing alarmed me from him that day except his call from the pulpit." She said: "And I was combing my hair, so I gathered my hair, then went out to a chamber among the chambers of my house, and put my ear to the palm-branch lattice, and there he was saying from the pulpit: 'O people! Allah says in His Book: {Indeed, the Muslim men and Muslim women, the believing men and believing women...} to the end of the verse, {Allah has prepared for them forgiveness and a great reward}.'" [Also] narrated to us by Yunus: Abd al-Wahid narrated to us: Uthman ibn Hakim narrated to us, from Abdullah ibn Rafi', from Umm Salamah, who said: "I said..." and he mentioned the hadith.
