English Translation
Narrated to us by Hasan ibn Musa, who said: Zuhayr narrated to us, who said: Abu al-Hasan al-Ahwal - meaning Ali ibn Abd al-A'la - narrated to us, from Abu Sahl, from Mussah, from Umm Salamah, who said: "Women in confinement after childbirth in the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to sit for forty days or forty nights after their childbirth, and we used to smear wars on our faces because of dark facial spots."
