حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي قَيْسٍ قَالَ أَرْسَلَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو إِلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ أَسْأَلُهَا هَلْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُقَبِّلُ وَهُوَ صَائِمٌ فَإِنْ قَالَتْ لَا فَقُلْ لَهَا إِنَّ عَائِشَةَ تُخْبِرُ النَّاسَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يُقَبِّلُ وَهُوَ صَائِمٌ قَالَ فَسَأَلَهَا أَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُقَبِّلُ وَهُوَ صَائِمٌ قَالَتْ لَا قُلْتُ إِنَّ عَائِشَةَ تُخْبِرُ النَّاسَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يُقَبِّلُ وَهُوَ صَائِمٌ قَالَتْ لَعَلَّهُ إِيَّاهَا كَانَ لَا يَتَمَالَكُ عَنْهَا حُبًّا أَمَّا إِيَّايَ فَلَا حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبِي يَقُولُ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو قَيْسٍ مَوْلَى عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ قَالَ بَعَثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ إِلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ فَذَكَرَ مَعْنَاهُ.
English Translation
'Abd al-Rahman b. Mahdi told us, he said Musa - meaning Ibn 'Ali - told us, from his father, from Abu Qays, who said: 'Abdullah b. 'Amr sent me to Umm Salamah to ask her whether the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to kiss while fasting; and if she said no, I was to tell her that 'A'ishah tells people that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to kiss while fasting. So he asked her, "Did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) kiss while fasting?" She said, "No." I said, "'A'ishah tells people that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to kiss while fasting." She said, "Perhaps with her he could not restrain himself, out of love for her; but as for me, no." 'Abdullah b. Yazid told us, he said Musa told us, he said I heard my father say Abu Qays, freedman of 'Amr b. al-'As, told me: 'Abdullah b. 'Amr b. al-'As sent me to Umm Salamah - and he related the same meaning.
