English Translation
Hashim told us, he said Abu Mu'awiyah - meaning Shayban - told us, from Abu al-Ya'fur, from 'Abdullah b. Abi Sa'id al-Muzani, from Hafsah bint 'Umar, who said: One day the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came in to me and placed his garment between his thighs. Abu Bakr came asking permission, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) granted him permission while remaining in that state. Then 'Umar came asking permission, and he was granted permission while the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) remained in that state; some of his Companions came and he granted them permission; then 'Ali came asking permission and was granted it, while the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) remained in that state. Then 'Uthman came and asked permission; he wrapped himself in his garment, then granted him permission. They talked for a while, then left. I said, "O Messenger of Allah, Abu Bakr, 'Umar, 'Ali, and some of your Companions came in to you while you remained as you were without moving, but when 'Uthman came in, you wrapped yourself in your garment." He said, "Should I not feel shy before one before whom even the angels feel shy?"
