English Translation
Ali ibn Asim narrated to us, from Sa'id ibn Iyas al-Jurayri, from Abu Abdullah al-Jasri, who said: I entered upon Aisha, and Hafsa bint Umar was with her. She said to me, "This is Hafsa, wife of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him." Then she turned to her and said, "I adjure you by God, do not confirm a lie I told, nor deny a truth I told. You know that you and I were with the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, when he fell unconscious, and I said to you, 'Do you think he has passed away?' You said, 'I do not know.' Then he came to, and said, 'Open the door for him.' Then he fell unconscious again, and I said to you, 'Do you think he has passed away?' You said, 'I do not know.' Then he came to again and said, 'Open the door for him.' I said to you, 'Is it my father or yours?' You said, 'I do not know.' So we opened the door, and there was Uthman ibn Affan. When the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, saw him, he said, 'Come close,' so he leaned over him, and he whispered something to him that neither I nor you know. Then he raised his head and said, 'Did you understand what I said to you?' He said, 'Yes.' He said, 'Come close,' so he leaned over him again the same way, and whispered something to him that we do not know, then raised his head and said, 'Did you understand what I said to you?' He said, 'Yes.' He said, 'Come close,' so he leaned over him very intently and whispered something to him, then raised his head and said, 'Did you understand what I said to you?' He said, 'Yes, my ears heard it and my heart retained it.' Then he said to him, 'Go out.'" She said: Hafsa said, "By God, yes," or she said, "By God, that is true."
