حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ بَكْرٍ السَّهْمِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا حَاتِمُ بْنُ أَبِي صَغِيرَةَ عَنْ أَبِي قَزَعَةَ أَنَّ عَبْدَ الْمَلِكِ بَيْنَمَا هُوَ يَطُوفُ بِالْبَيْتِ إِذْ قَالَ قَاتَلَ اللَّهُ ابْنَ الزُّبَيْرِ حَيْثُ يَكْذِبُ عَلَى أُمِّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُهَا وَهِيَ تَقُولُ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ يَا عَائِشَةُ لَوْلَا حِدْثَانُ قَوْمِكِ بِالْكُفْرِ لَنَقَبْتُ الْبَيْتَ قَالَ أَبِي قَالَ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ لَنَقَضْتُ الْبَيْتَ حَتَّى أَزِيدَ فِيهِ مِنْ الْحِجْرِ فَإِنَّ قَوْمَكِ قَصَّرُوا عَنْ الْبِنَاءِ فَقَالَ الْحَارِثُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي رَبِيعَةَ لَا تَقُلْ هَذَا يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فَأَنَا سَمِعْتُ أُمَّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ تُحَدِّثُ هَذَا فَقَالَ لَوْ كُنْتُ سَمِعْتُ هَذَا قَبْلَ أَنْ أَهْدِمَهُ لَتَرَكْتُهُ عَلَى بِنَاءِ ابْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ.
English Translation
Abdullah ibn Bakr al-Sahmi told us, Hatim ibn Abi Saghira told us, from Abu Qaza’a, that Abd al-Malik, while circumambulating the House, said: "May Allah fight Ibn al-Zubayr, for he lies about the Mother of the Believers, saying: 'I heard her saying that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "O Aisha, were it not that your people had only recently left disbelief, I would have breached the House."'" My father said: al-Ansari said instead: "I would have demolished the House so as to add to it from the Hijr, for your people fell short in its construction." Then al-Harith ibn Abdullah ibn Abi Rabi’a said: "Do not say this, O Commander of the Believers, for I myself heard the Mother of the Believers narrate this." He said: "Had I heard this before I demolished it, I would have left it upon the construction of Ibn al-Zubayr."
