English Translation
Affan narrated to us: Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us: Hisham ibn Urwah informed us, from Urwah, from A'ishah, that Abu Bakr said to her: "On what day did the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, die?" She said: "On Monday." He said: "As Allah wills; I do not expect [to live] from now until nightfall." He said: "In what did you shroud him?" She said: "In three white garments of Suhul cloth from Yemen, with neither shirt nor turban among them." Abu Bakr said: "Look at this garment of mine; it has a stain of saffron or red ochre on it - wash it and add to it two other garments." A'ishah said: "O father, it is worn out." He said: "The living has more right to the new [garment]; this old one is only for the discharge [of the corpse]." Abdullah ibn Abi Bakr had given them a striped Yemeni garment, and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was wrapped in it, then they took it off him and he was shrouded in the three white garments. Abdullah then took the striped garment and said: "I shall shroud myself in something that touched the skin of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him." Then afterward he said: "By Allah, I will not shroud myself in something that Allah, Mighty and Sublime, prevented His Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, from being shrouded in." He died on the night of Tuesday and was buried at night. And A'ishah died, and Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr buried her at night.
