English Translation
When Hilal ibn Umayyah accused his wife (of adultery), it was said to him: 'By Allah, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) will surely flog you eighty lashes.' He said: 'Allah is more just than that — that He would have me struck eighty times when He knows that I saw it with certainty and heard it with certainty. No, by Allah, He will never strike me!' Then the verse of li'an (mutual cursing/oath) was revealed.
