حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعَيْبٌ عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ قَالَ وَأَخْبَرَنِي عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَتْ وَاللَّهِ مَا سَبَّحَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سُبْحَةَ الضُّحَى قَطُّ وَإِنِّي لَأُسَبِّحُهَا وَقَالَتْ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَتْرُكُ الْعَمَلَ وَهُوَ يُحِبُّ أَنْ يَعْمَلَهُ خَشْيَةَ أَنْ يَسْتَنَّ بِهِ النَّاسُ فَيُفْرَضُ عَلَيْهِمْ وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُحِبُّ مَا خَفَّ عَلَى النَّاسِ مِنْ الْفَرَائِضِ.
English Translation
Ali ibn Ayyash told us: Shu'ayb told us, from al-Zuhri, who said: Urwah ibn al-Zubayr informed me that A'isha, wife of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "By Allah, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, never prayed the Duha prayer at all, while I pray it." And she said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, used to leave a deed which he loved to do, out of fear that people would take it up as a practice and it would be made obligatory upon them; and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, loved for the people what was lightest of the obligatory duties.
