حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ مُجَالِدٍ عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَاضِعًا يَدَيْهِ عَلَى مَعْرَفَةِ فَرَسٍ وَهُوَ يُكَلِّمُ رَجُلًا قُلْتُ رَأَيْتُكَ وَاضِعًا يَدَيْكَ عَلَى مَعْرَفَةِ فَرَسِ دِحْيَةَ الْكَلْبِيِّ وَأَنْتَ تُكَلِّمُهُ قَالَ وَرَأَيْتِ قَالَتْ نَعَمْ قَالَ ذَاكَ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام وَهُوَ يُقْرِئُكِ السَّلَامَ قَالَتْ وَعَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ جَزَاهُ اللَّهُ خَيْرًا مِنْ صَاحِبٍ وَدَخِيلٍ فَنِعْمَ الصَّاحِبُ وَنِعْمَ الدَّخِيلُ قَالَ سُفْيَانُ الدَّخِيلُ الضَّيْفُ.
English Translation
Sufyan narrated to us, from Mujalid, from al-Sha'bi, from Abu Salamah, from Aishah, who said: I saw the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, placing his hands on the mane of a horse while speaking to a man. I said, "I saw you placing your hands on the mane of Dihyah al-Kalbi's horse while you were speaking to him." He said, "And did you see him?" She said, "Yes." He said, "That was Gabriel, peace be upon him, and he sends you his greetings of peace." She said, "And upon him be peace and the mercy of Allah and His blessings; may Allah reward him well as a companion and a guest — what an excellent companion, and what an excellent guest." Sufyan said: al-dakhil means the guest.
