حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ وَحُسَيْنٌ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرٌو عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ هِنْدٍ الْأَسْلَمِيِّ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ مَنْ أَخَذَ السَّبْعَ الْأُوَلَ فَهُوَ حَبْرٌ حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ عَنْ الْأَعْرَجِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِثْلَهُ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْد الرَّحْمَنِ وَهَذَا أَرَى أَنَّ فِيهِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ الْأَعْرَجِ وَلَكِنْ كَذَا كَانَ فِي الْكِتَابِ فَلَا أَدْرِي أَغْفَلَهُ أَبِي أَوْ كَذَا هُوَ مُرْسَلٌ.
English Translation
Sulayman ibn Dawud and Husayn narrated to us, they said: Isma'il ibn Ja'far narrated to us, he said: Amr informed me, from Habib ibn Hind al-Aslami, from Urwah, from Aishah: that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Whoever masters the first seven long surahs is a scholar." Husayn narrated to us, he said: Ibn Abi al-Zinad narrated to us, from al-A'raj, from Abu Hurayrah, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, similarly. Abu Abd al-Rahman said: I think this chain should include "from his father, from al-A'raj," but it was thus in the book, so I do not know whether my father omitted it, or whether it is indeed a chain with a missing link.
