English Translation
Isam bin Khalid al-Hadrami narrated to us: Safwan bin Amr narrated to us, from Shurayh bin Ubayd, that Fadalah bin Ubayd al-Ansari used to say: We campaigned with the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, in the expedition of Tabuk, and our mounts suffered severe hardship, so they complained to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, of the hardship afflicting their mounts. He waited for them at a narrow pass, and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, went through it and said: Pass through in the name of Allah. So the people passed by him with their mounts, and he began invoking upon their mounts: O Allah, carry them in Your way; indeed You carry the strong and the weak, and the moist and the dry, on land and sea. He said: We did not reach Madinah before the mounts began pulling eagerly at their reins. Fadalah said: This is the supplication of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, for the strong and the weak — but what of the moist and the dry? Then, when we came to Syria, we campaigned in the expedition to Cyprus by sea, and when I saw the ships at sea and what went into them, I understood the supplication of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.
