حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَنْبَأَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى عَنِ الْحَكَمِ بْنِ عُتَيْبَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي رَافِعٍ قَالَ مَرَّ عَلَيَّ الْأَرْقَمُ الزُّهْرِيُّ أَوْ ابْنُ أَبِي الْأَرْقَمِ وَاسْتُعْمِلَ عَلَى الصَّدَقَاتِ قَالَ فَاسْتَتْبَعَنِي قَالَ فَأَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَسَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ يَا أَبَا رَافِعٍ إِنَّ الصَّدَقَةَ حَرَامٌ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ إِنَّ مَوْلَى الْقَوْمِ مِنْ أَنْفُسِهِمْ.
English Translation
Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us: Sufyan informed us from Ibn Abi Layla from al-Hakam ibn Utayba, from Ibn Abi Rafi', who said: "Al-Arqam al-Zuhri, or Ibn Abi al-Arqam, passed by me - and he had been appointed over the collection of the charity - and he asked me to accompany him. So I went to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and asked him about that. He said, 'O Abu Rafi', charity is forbidden to Muhammad and to the family of Muhammad; indeed, the freedman of a people is [counted as] one of themselves.'"
