حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ رَبِّهِ حَدَّثَنَا بَقِيَّةُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ حَدَّثَنِي إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ عَنْ ضَمْضَمِ بْنِ زُرْعَةَ عَنْ شُرَيْحِ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ عَنْ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ نُفَيْرٍ وَعَمْرِو بْنِ الْأَسْوَدِ عَنِ الْمِقْدَادِ بْنِ الْأَسْوَدِ وَأَبِي أُمَامَةَ قَالَا إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِنَّ الْأَمِيرَ إِذَا ابْتَغَى الرِّيبَةَ فِي النَّاسِ أَفْسَدَهُمْ.
English Translation
Yazid ibn Abd Rabbihi narrated to us: Baqiyyah ibn al-Walid narrated to us: Isma'il ibn Ayyash narrated to me from Damdam ibn Zur'ah from Shurayh ibn Ubayd from Jubayr ibn Nufayr and Amr ibn al-Aswad, from al-Miqdad ibn al-Aswad and Abu Umamah, who both said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "When the ruler seeks out suspicion among the people, he corrupts them."
