English Translation
'Affan narrated to us, Hammad ibn Salama narrated to us from Qays ibn Sa'd from Muhammad ibn Ibrahim al-Taymi from Abu Salama ibn 'Abd al-Rahman from Abu Hurayra who said: I came to Syria and met Ka'b, and he would tell me of the Torah while I told him of the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, until we came to speak of the day of Friday (Jumu'ah). I told him that the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "There is an hour on Friday in which no Muslim coincides while asking God for something good except that He gives it to him." Ka'b said, "God and His Messenger have spoken the truth; it occurs once a year." I said, "No." Ka'b thought for a moment, then said, "God and His Messenger have spoken the truth; it occurs once a month." I said, "No." He thought for a moment, then said, "God and His Messenger have spoken the truth; it occurs once every Friday." I said, "Yes." Ka'b said, "Do you know which day it is?" I said, "Which day is it?" He said, "On it God created Adam, and on it the Hour will come to pass, and all creatures are attentive on it except the two weighty ones -- the jinn and mankind -- out of fear of the Resurrection." So I came to Medina and informed 'Abdullah ibn Salam of what Ka'b had said, and he said, "Ka'b has lied." I said, "He has already come back to my view." He said, "Do you know which hour it is?" I said, "No," and I pressed him eagerly, "Tell me, tell me!" He said, "It is between 'Asr and Maghrib." I said, "How can that be, when there is no prayer then?" He said, "Have you not heard the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, say: 'The servant remains in a state of prayer as long as he is in his place of prayer awaiting the prayer'?"
