English Translation

Yahya ibn Zakariyya ibn Abi Za'idah told us: Muhammad ibn Ishaq told us, from Asim ibn Umar ibn Qatadah, from Mahmud ibn Labid, from Ibn Abbas, who said: Salman related to me, he said: I brought food to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while I was a slave, and I said: "This is charity." He ordered his Companions, and they ate, but he did not eat. Then I brought him food and said: "This is a gift I am giving you to honor you with, for I saw that you do not eat charity." He ordered his Companions, and they ate, and he ate with them. Yahya ibn Zakariyya told us: my father told me, from Abu Ishaq, from the family of Abu Qurrah, from Salman, who said: I had sought permission of my mistress for that, and she permitted me gladly, so I gathered firewood and sold it, and bought that food.
