English Translation

Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi told us: Sufyan told us, from Mansur and al-A'mash, from Ibrahim, from Abd al-Rahman ibn Yazid, from Salman al-Farisi, who said: The polytheists said to him: "We see that your companion teaches you, even teaching you how to relieve yourselves." He said: "Indeed. He forbids us from cleansing ourselves with our right hand, or facing the qiblah, and he forbids us from using dung and bones, and he said: 'None of you should cleanse himself with fewer than three stones.'" Muhammad ibn Ja'far told us: Shu'bah told us, from Mansur, from Ibrahim, from Abd al-Rahman ibn Yazid, that a man of the polytheists said to a man among the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "This one has taught you everything," and he mentioned the hadith.
