English Translation
Abd al-Razzaq told us: Ibn Jurayj informed us: Ibn Shihab informed me, from Ata' ibn Yazid al-Laythi, from Ubaydullah ibn Adi ibn al-Khiyar, that a man of the Ansar told him: he came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was in a gathering, and whispered to him seeking his permission to kill a man among the hypocrites. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) spoke aloud and said: "Does he not testify that there is no god but Allah?" The Ansari said: "Yes indeed, O Messenger of Allah, but he has no true testimony." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Does he not testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah?" He said: "Yes indeed, O Messenger of Allah, but he has no true testimony." "Does he not pray?" He said: "Yes indeed, O Messenger of Allah, but he has no true prayer." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Those are the ones whom Allah has forbidden me from killing." Abd al-Razzaq told us: Ma'mar told us, from al-Zuhri, from Ata' ibn Yazid al-Laythi, from Ubaydullah ibn Adi ibn al-Khiyar, from Abdullah ibn Adi al-Ansari, who related to him that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), while he was sitting, a man came to him -- meaning seeking his permission, that is, whispering to him -- and he mentioned its meaning.
