حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ بْنِ رَافِعٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ مُدْرِكٍ قَالَ رَأَيْتُ أَبَا أَيُّوبَ فَنَزَعَ خُفَّيْهِ فَنَظَرُوا إِلَيْهِ فَقَالَ أَمَا إِنِّي قَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَمْسَحُ عَلَيْهِمَا وَلَكِنْ حُبِّبَ إِلَيَّ الْوُضُوءُ.
English Translation
Ali b. Mudrik said: I saw Abu Ayyub remove his leather socks, and the people looked at him [in surprise], so he said, "I did indeed see the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, wipe over them, but ablution with water has become dear to me."
